Effervescence Table Runner - Thursday, March 1 2012

Instructor:  Laura Piliaris
Class Fee:  $35
Time:  10:30 - 4

Confident Beginner through Advanced

Laura wanted to call this table runner "Funky 7-Up" but I didn't want us to get in trouble with the trademark police so I suggested "Effervescence." Whatever you call it it will put some happiness on your table and add some wattage to your room. Laura used fabric from our new "Gradations" collection by Caryl Bryer Fallert to give the runner added dimension and way more fun. The Gradations come in a variety of color progressions to suit your preference but you can use other fabrics as well. Choose textured neutrals for an Asian look or solids for a cool modern look. Scrappy fans just dig into your scrap box. A unifying background will pull it all together. Or get a jump on the holidays for next year. Make the squares with scraps from your Christmas projects and add little bows to the tops of the squares and you'll have packages tumbling out of Santa's sleigh or work it up with silver and gold metallics on black and call it "Confetti" to celebrate the New Year.

The design looks tricky but it is easy enough for a confident beginner. As a bonus you'll learn how to make an easy false piping which adds sophistication and a color boost. In addition Laura will demonstrate how to achieve the cool bubbly quilting design.

Supplies

Fabric

-Background and Binding:  1 and 1/2 yard solid or reads as solid fabric
-Squares, dashes and piping:  1/3 yard gradated or other high contrast fabric
-Batting: 16 x 66 inches (you may choose to make a shorter table runner)
-Backing: 16 x 66 inches

Other Supplies and Equipment

-Sewing machine that you are familiar with. Bring the accessories box (including a quarter inch foot and a walking foot for your machine if you have them), extra bobbins, and the power cord and foot pedal!! Please make sure your machine is in good working order. Treat your machine to a new needle and a bit of oil before class.
-Surge protector for your machine. (Using a surge protector is a smart thing to do anywhere you sew, but especially in a classroom where multiple machines, irons and other miscellaneous power tools are using the same circuit … I'm just sayin' ...)
-Rotary Cutter
-Self-healing cutting mat (An 18”x24” is generally recommended. With this size, you can cut a whole, folded width of fabric.
-Rotary cutting ruler (8½” x 24” is recommended).
-Thread to match the background fabric or a neutral color. We highly recommend our Aurifil! (Filling a couple of bobbins ahead of time will allow more time for your project in class.)
-Sewing machine needles: Universal or Quilting needles size 80 or 90 work well for this project.
-Your sewing kit with your favorite sewing notions: fabric shears, thread snips or scissors, marking tools, seam ripper, straight pins, basting pins, etc.

Class Reservation and Parking Information

You can reserve a spot in this class with full payment of the class fee. If you are not able to attend the class please notify us as soon as possible so your space may be offered to a student on the waiting list. A full refund will be made in the form of a store credit, which may be used towards another class or any purchases in the shop, so long as you notify us at least 72 hours (3 days) in advance of the class.

While attending class, we kindly ask that you park against the chain link fence or on the street alongside the shop. There is also an additional parking lot just across the street from our back door. That will allow access to patients of the chiropractic office and other businesses in our building. Of course you are welcome to pull right up to the door for unloading. Thank you for understanding.
